Let's say right away that the picture preceding this article is not an error or a "glitch" of the site. We chose it deliberately, because this illustration most accurately demonstrates the situation that will be discussed. In a figurative sense, of course.
This picture, especially in winter, often flashes in social network feeds as a graphic display of a comical story about a girl doing a school assignment on the topic "Who do I want to be?" The implication is that the teacher, checking the work, sees in the picture the girl's mother dancing at the pole to the delight of the burners of life, showering the dancer with banknotes. Then the mother turns the meaning of the drawing upside down: it turns out that she sells shovels in a store, and when the city is covered in snow, she, naturally, has no end of customers. And the girl simply wants to become a successful salesperson ☺
"What does this have to do with orthopedics?" - you ask, not catching the allegory. Well, here's what it has to do with it. Just like winter, which makes car enthusiasts and ordinary people get shovels, we, manufacturers and sellers of children's orthopedic shoes, also have our own statistics. Moreover, unlike successful merchants with their brisk trade in shovels, our statistics are not at all encouraging...
Did you know that after a carefree summer, the sales volume of orthopedic shoes for children increases several times? In addition to the change of season and the start of a new school year, this also happens because in the summer, with its freedom in everything, children do not follow any preventive measures or medical prescriptions regarding the correct development of feet. This is one of the reasons for the increase in seasonal sales. In winter – shovels. In the off-season – rubber boots. In summer – Panama hats. And in autumn – orthopedic shoes, for example,orthopedic sneakers for a girlor a boy, which should correct the summer mistakes of parents.

Yes, yes, it is the parents who, buying autumn shoes for their children from us, complain: the treatment of the orthopedic problem, which seemed to have started so optimistically, not only came to naught by the end of the summer, but also underwent significant regression.
In our opinion, there may be several reasons for such a sad result:
- disdainful attitude towards the shoes that children without orthopedic deviations wear in the summer;
- absolute absence on the summer shoe shelf of the correct orthopedic shoes recommended for a specific orthopedic deformity (flat feet, varus or flat-valgus foot positioning);
- failure to follow the orthopedist's recommendations aimed at strengthening the feet.
Healthy feet - the right shoes!
"Feet are hot too!" - a caring mother decides and buys her daughter cute flip-flops, which completely lack any fixation on the foot.

Meanwhile, until the age of 5 (once again: UNTIL FIVE!) it is advisable to wear shoes with a closed back. And the younger the child, the more priority this requirement has.
If the feet are tilted inward, the backrest is on the must have list - up to 7 years old, while the foot is actively developing.
But for a child without orthopedic deformities, it is absolutely not necessary to buy hard shoes with a high backrest - yes, many parents go to extremes in their care. However, the backrest is nevertheless necessary - moderately hard. The shoe itself should be securely fixed with Velcro or fasteners so that the foot does not dangle. Especially the heel - actually, this is what the backrest is needed for.
What are the criteria for ideal summer shoes for healthy feet that need prevention, but not treatment? Let's list:
- comfortable to wear - the child will walk and run in the shoes all summer, and he should want to do this in his new shoes;
- not narrow in the toe area;
- not large in size (no more than 1 cm of allowance is allowed). Of course, wearing shoes that no longer fit is also a priori prohibited;
- the presence of a low, moderately reinforced back;
- excellent fixation with Velcro or other devices;
- preferably a very small heel (note that the design of the sole of some models - for example, sneakers - provides for an increase in the level in the heel area - in this case, the visual illusion of the absence of a heel will be created);
- natural materials.
Here is an excellent example of the most suitable shoes for healthy feet.

It is important to take into account the fact that at the age of 1-2 years, the legs are placed in an O-shape. Do not worry, most often this is not a pathology, and there are no special indications for wearing special therapeutic shoes. We will tell you more about this in our next publications.
Doctor's recommendation is mandatory
Shoes recommended by a doctor to correct a specific deformity cannot be ignored. No, even like this: CATEGORICALLY NOT. Because it is unacceptable to interrupt the course of treatment. Period.
Barefoot summer
Walking barefoot is pure health. This is a real workout for the feet, while they are in a natural state. At the same time, muscles are strengthened, ligaments receive the necessary tone, the arch of the foot is formed correctly. Pebbles, sand, grass, obstacle courses on playgrounds – any opportunity to run barefoot can be turned into a fun game.

… Although we started with humor, we are not going to downplay the autumn issue of exacerbation of orthopedic problems in children. Because every September the statistics are repeated with persistent regularity. Please pay attention to what your children wear in the summer. Do they run barefoot on grass and sand. Do they wear corrective and therapeutic orthopedic shoes, as recommended by the doctor.
Our children are the future of our country. Let it be healthy!
