It happens that you need to buy something necessary, but you delay the happy moment of purchase, because the process of choosing this necessary thing is very tiring for you. Both in terms of wasting time and in terms of the agony of choice. At the same time, the choice should be made absolutely independently, since you will use this item exclusively, and every day. Or rather, night ;) Because we are talking about a pillow for sleeping.
In general, when sleeping on a familiar, but "tired" pillow is completely unbearable, because its entire inner world has turned into a solid lump of your nerves, when you are tired of waking up with the feeling that you have been toiling all night in the gold mines, you gather your will into a fist and go buy an orthopedic pillow.
You go and already with longing imagine a long and tedious conversation with a consultant. After all, it turns out that in order to choose and buy a pillow for sleeping, it is not enough to just come to the store and point your finger at the first model you come across. No-o-o... First, you will have a fascinating dialogue, the logical conclusion of which will be the successful choice of the only correct position from the entire colossal assortment.
First, the consultant will introduce you to the "matter part". Pillows with a high bolster are for broad-shouldered people, with a lower one - accordingly, for those with whom nature has not been so generous. Hypoallergenic filler guarantees that you will not sneeze and suffocate in your sleep. If the pillow is filled with innovative memory foam material, it will adjust to your weight and, under the influence of your body temperature, will recreate an individual ergonomic shape for your head. The neck will take the correct position, and the cervical spine will neither bend nor rise above the line of the spine, occupying a single plane with it.
Then there will be a detailed analysis of your preferences in order to determine by the process of elimination which specific pillow from this set is yours. You answer questions about the desired degree of softness of the pillow and its intended height, about your favorite sleeping position, how intensely you toss and turn, how high you lie down on the pillow, etc. Examining and feeling countless models, you try to mentally adjust the future pillow to your parameters. It looks something like this. A person stands and mumbles, absently sorting through pillow samples:
– My shoulders are wide – well, yes – then with a bolster... No, not that wide. Without a bolster, in general. I sleep on my stomach – then this one, flattened. And when on the side – then higher. The pillow should be soft. But sometimes you want it to be harder. Well, it turns out that I need a separate pillow for each case!
Agree – it’s very tiring! And then you start to fantasize, so that it won’t be so boring to imagine how very soon you will have to choose a pillow together with a professional consultant.
“Surely, soon it will become much easier to buy such accessories! For example, like this. You come to the store, and there is a touch screen at the entrance. And a microphone on the side. You say into it: “Choose a comfortable, correct pillow!” Then, remembering some echoes of what you read and heard before the development of technology, you correct yourself: “Buy a comfortable orthopedic pillow!” And that’s it. A flat green beam bursts out of the screen, scans you from the top of your head all the way to your navel with a fine digital mesh, evaluates your physical parameters, climbs into your brain and rummages through your memory, calculating your most comfortable sleeping positions, sleep phases, preferences regarding the softness/hardness of a pillow, and five seconds later that very pillow of yours descends from somewhere in the ceiling."
Or no, - you dream on. Let's say I'm not at home for the night. And I can't sleep again :) And the pillow is completely different from what I'm used to... Halfway there, you realize that you don’t want to talk to the pillow seller, you stop and decide to buy a pillow in an online store. But this also turns out to be no easy task, and almost even more difficult. The online consultant throws you links, you compare, mentally try on the models, figure out whether the price matches the declared quality and whether the expectations will be met.
Sifting through the virtual showcase, you have time to think that it would be nice to “click” on “buy” on the site, a flat green grid will also crawl out of the gadget, scan you and before you have time to look back, the pillow on your favorite bed is already starting a session of today's dreams. Not colored, of course, but still something...
Of course, in the end you still bought a pillow the old-fashioned way - went to the store, talked to the employee and simply went home with a packed pillow under your arm.
"And yet, the technologies of the future are just around the corner," you think, falling asleep on a new pillow. Your head sinks into the soft springy surface just enough for your neck to take its physiological position. "Someday we will learn to materialize a pillow out of nothing, just by thinking about it at the right moment. And colored dreams will be built into this pillow by default!"
