
Today it is fashionable to share life hacks. We are also in trend ;) So we will tell you about one very useful way to make the right purchase. In this case - an orthopedic pillow for sleeping.
When you buy something, it is convenient to first analyze what this purchase is needed for. What goals am I pursuing by purchasing this? How will I use it? It is the development of the goal that makes the selection process much easier. If you know exactly how and for what purpose you will use the product, it is easier to choose the one you need. So, having made an algorithm, you can easily cope with the choice when buying anything: interior items and furniture, household appliances, even a car.
I am sure that it is just as easy to solve the question of "how to choose an orthopedic pillow” if you work out such an algorithm.
Algorithm for choosing an orthopedic pillow
- Decide on the purpose of buying an orthopedic pillow. After all, for some reason people are looking for them?

- Remember your favorite sleeping position.
- Think about your preferences regarding the density of the pillow filler.
- Study the descriptions, reviews, consult with the seller and, finally, decide on the option you like.
- Make sure the price is right.
- Buy a pillow and try it out (i.e. just sleep on it :))
- If the pillow fits, keep it and become the happy owner of a brand new orthopedic pillow.

Perhaps someone is reading this article now, and he also has so-so sleep, and if his neck turns in the morning, it is not very willingly, through pain. And probably thinks: "Oh! Now I'll find out what kind of pillow this guy bought for himself, and I'll do the same, and my problems will be solved!"
I don't want to disappoint you, but problems with sleep quality and neck pain are unlikely to be solved with just one purchase. No matter how much we love simple solutions...
Do orthopedic pillows help with osteochondrosis?
Although, in fairness, it must be admitted: it is suitable orthopedic pillow - this is an important part of solving the problems listed. In my subjective opinion, a well-chosen pillow helps to cope with them by 25-30%.
Personally, I solved my problems. Discomfort and pain in the neck bother me much less often and to a much lesser extent. Why? I think because:
- I started doing exercises, morning exercises, as well as breaks from work for exercises during the day,
- I found a comfortable pillow,
- I took chondroprotectors (drugs with chondroitin and glucosamine) for several months.
If anyone is interested in learning about the exercises I do, I will be happy to share them. After all, I have visited more than one excellent neurologist in one wonderful city. And not two. And the exercises that helped me solve the problem with neck pain may help someone else.
Does an orthopedic pillow help improve sleep?
Undeniably, a pillow affects the quality of sleep. But this is only one aspect. Considering that I personally have solved the problem with sleep at this stage of my life, I also have something to share. If you have trouble sleeping, pay attention to the following:
- Room temperature: the bedroom should not be hot;
- Fresh air in the bedroom is a must;
- No light sources. At all. The room should be dark. And your sleep will probably improve;
- No disturbing sounds (ticking of a clock, etc.). The bedroom should be quiet;
- Time spent in front of screens of devices and gadgets - before going to bed it should be reduced;
- Dinner: you should adjust the time of food intake before bed and its composition;
- Caffeine: try not to drink caffeinated drinks 10 hours before bed - this may work.
I solved these problems: each one to a greater or lesser extent. You won't believe it - each of them can be solved, even if it seems impossible. If anyone is interested, I am ready to share exactly how.
But still, this article is about howto choose pillows for sleeping, and we will focus on this topic.
What is the best sleeping position?
I know that I like to sleep on my side and stomach. If I sleep on my side, then a pillow that is too low and soft will not suit me. And in general, sleeping on your stomach is not very useful, because then the neck is constantly in a turned position relative to the body. And I tried to find a pillow that wasn't too soft, on which I would rather sleep on my side.
I had the following options to choose from:
Butterfly pillow tm Olvi. Its peculiarity is in the density of the filler and the unusual shape, which allows you to sleep comfortably in different positions. Women can also be attracted to it by the additional beauty effect. After all, sleeping on this pillow prevents the occurrence of new sleep wrinkles and reduces the severity of existing ones, because it does not wrinkle the skin. In addition, the pillow will protect your eyelash extensions - they do not come into contact with the pillow elements and do not break. However, I was not primarily interested in the cosmetic effect.
pillow with memory effect. Its shape includes two rollers, one above, the second below. The name describes it well. It is comfortable to sleep on both your stomach and side. It is softer than Butterfly.

Khmarinka XL. The model is identical to the previous one, but, as the name suggests, the size of the orthopedic pillow is larger.
I carefully studied the features of each of these pillows. Personally, I chose the Butterfly orthopedic pillow for myself.
For me, the shape of this pillow turned out to be very comfortable. Basically, as I wanted, I sleep on it on my side. Thanks to the shape, you can find a comfortable position on it in other positions. Even on your stomach. I got used to it in two nights. My old pillow is still lying nearby - closer to the wall. It is also comfortable. But I return to it less and less often - more and more to put it between my knees, or to put it under my back while reading a book. I sleep better on the Butterfly pillow than on the old one: I wake up and toss and turn less often - for me this is a very important indicator.
