How to measure foot length
Everyone knows that shoes - both children's and adults - are chosen by size. However, size is a very subjective concept, since there is no single, identical size grid for all shoes. That is, the size identification system itself exists: we all know that there is a specific foot size chart, we are familiar with metric designations - 19, 20, 21 ... and then 41, 42, 43 and so on.
It's just that boots or shoes of the same size, but from different brands, often do not match each other in size, and if you put them sole to sole, or if you take out the insoles and put them next to each other, you will probably be very surprised.
In addition, some manufacturers divide their size chart into "halves", that is, they offer, say, sizes 25.5 or 37.5, some do not offer, and some even double the sizes, offering 33-34 or 29-30.
Foot size in centimeters?
When it became clear that the size chart of each manufacturer differs - somewhere by a couple of millimeters, and where - by a whole size or even two, we came to a very simple solution. How to determine the shoe size? Yes, very simple! The most trivial way is to measure your foot and focus on its length.
We have prepared this instruction because this process raises many questions among buyers.
So, how do you find out your foot size if you are not yet familiar with the brand's shoes and you doubt the accuracy of the size chart?
To do this, we will tell you in detail and demonstrate in detail how to measure your foot correctly.
What do you need to measure your foot?
- a sheet of paper,
- a pen or pencil,
- a ruler,
- and the child ;)
If you think that you will now carefully trace your foot with a pencil, then you are mistaken. We will do it completely differently.
How to measure your foot when buying shoes online? Instructions.
1. Place a sheet of paper on a flat, hard surface - the floor, a table - and ask the child (or an adult) to stand on the sheet so that the midline of the foot is parallel to the sheet.

This point is very important: the child should stand barefoot on the sheet, and stand confidently, distributing the body weight on both feet at the same time. If you decide to take measurements from the foot when the child is sitting or lying down, and the foot is in the air, abandon this idea: it is useless, then the measurements will be inaccurate, and in general this method is akin to buying new sneakers or boots by eye.

2. Then apply the ruler to the longest toe and check that it is perpendicular to the sheet and does not go beyond the toe.

3. Use a pen to draw a line on the sheet of paper perpendicular to the length of the sheet. Make sure that the writing tip is flush with the ruler.

4. Find the middle point between the first and second toes and make a mark at this point.

5. Then apply the ruler to the heel and draw another line parallel to the first. Mark the middle of the heel with a dash.

6. Measure the other foot in the same way. The input data is the same: a barefoot child stands on a flat, hard surface and rests his or her body weight on the foot.
7. Now you have both readings ready. Take a ruler and measure the distance between the points.
Important! Yes, we all studied the metric scale at school. However, to avoid misunderstandings, which gave birth to this unforgettable meme - "Good people, tell me where to start measuring with this ruler? From the beginning of the ruler, from zero or from one?" - let's focus on this point. Remember: measurements should be taken only and exclusively from zero! Remember? At the end of the article, we will tell you a funny story from life, and then this moment will definitely stick in your memory ;)
8. Compare the length of both lines. If you get different measurements, that is, if the length of the right and left feet differ, then use the larger of them as a guide.

This is almost the end of the lesson "How to measure your foot size correctly". There is only one nuance left: when choosing shoes, you should take into account the reserve, which can be from 5 to 10 mm, depending on the season of the shoes - for children's winter orthopedic boots the reserve will be more, for children's orthopedic sandals 5 may be enough mm

How to find out shoe size?
Now we can determine the size by the insole and are guided more by the ruler than by the conventional designations. Although, in fact, these very designations were invented precisely for our convenience.
Having adapted, we have learned to compare the length of the foot with the shoe size table. Due to the difference in the correspondence of sizes and centimeters among different manufacturers, words like "small" and "large" have appeared in our everyday life, and when buying shoes in online stores, we are interested not so much in the size itself as in centimeters and ask to measure the length of the insole. Anticipating such requests, manufacturers provide a correspondence table. Thus, the online store olvi.ua for the convenience of customers has organized a virtual selection of shoes with orientation both by size and by foot length.
We will give a specific example of selecting a size in accordance with foot length. The child in the picture has a foot length of 19.8 cm. Given the 5-10 mm allowance, it is clear that shoes with an insole length of 20.3 to 20.8 cm will suit him. Let's take sandals 06-141. The size chart on the olvi.ua website shows that this foot length corresponds to size 31 with an insole length of 20.5. Size 30 with an insole length of 20 cm will be small or very tight for the child. Size 32 with an insole length of 21 cm is too big.

In the same way, you can choose shoes for adults in the corresponding sections - women's orthopedic shoes and men's orthopedic shoes.
And now - the promised story ;)
One man decided to put up a fence around his family's dacha. He measured the perimeter of the site with his favorite ten-meter tape measure, ordered material in accordance with the measurements, and during the installation of the fence it turned out that there were not enough sections. He suffered, remeasured, almost went crazy. And then it turned out that the mother-in-law accidentally ruined the tape measure, carefully cut out one meter and sewed the tape measure. And she didn't tell her beloved son-in-law anything, so as not to upset him ;)
